FAQ: GULA
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Backerkit Crowdfunding!

What audience is GULA for, age-wise?

Definitely an adult audience. While GULA is at no point particularly smutty, it is at times explicit about both sex and violence (as well as their intersections) to a degree inappropriate for readers under 18.

I want both prints. Can I get both?

Absolutely! If you’re getting a tier with a print included, just add whichever one you aren’t already receiving through the add-ons page. If you’re pledging to a lower tier and still want one (or both) you can also use the add-ons page to order them that way.

What kind of poetry is GULA?

GULA is long enough that it has multiple forms of poetry included! Portions are in free verse; others are structured forms like sestina and haiku. Some sections rhyme, others don’t. If you’re a true structured poetry hater, don’t worry, there isn’t too much of that, but I encourage you to have an open mind.

My package got lost in shipping. Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately due to the nature of shipping, I can’t guarantee refunds for anything lost in the mail. Opening a dispute with Canada Post or your local mail carrier is the best route in these situations, although please do let me know as well in case of oversight on my end.

My package arrived damaged. Can I get a refund or replacement?

If your book(s)/print arrived as a misprint or in some other way damaged prior to shipping, then yes! Please send me pictures of the product in your request.

If your book(s)/print are damaged during shipping, however, there isn’t much I can do and I cannot guarantee any refunds or replacements.

Where can I find trigger warnings or content warnings for your books?

Many of my books contain trigger warnings within them, but I’ve also provided a quick guide below to help you with understanding the content in each book.

Please note that most of my books are appropriate for 18+ only;

GULA – Broad topics: genocide, transphobia/queerphobia, suicide, sexual assault and fascism. Grief, hate crime, environmental and nuclear anxiety, and mass death are also frequent themes, and there are mentions of things like euthanasia, ableism, and body horror.

Post-Traumatic Anatomy: PTSD and other mental illness themes are a big part of this book, as well as sexual assault, suicide, self-harm, involuntary hospitalization and emotional and physical partner abuse.

The Shining Wire: Trauma recovery, PTSD, BPD, suicide, gun violence, domestic abuse, miscarriage, neurodivergence trauma, and codependence are all fairly prominent themes.

Revenant’s Hymn: death/grief, dissociation, domestic violence, drug use, dubious consent, graphic depictions of violence, mental illness, Nazism/Holocaust references (offscreen largely), necrophilia, psychosis, sexual assault/abuse and suicide.

Home is Where The Ghosts Are: implied partner abuse, grief, suicide, and mental illness/unreality.

Deep in the Bone: Death/grief is the only major trigger warning for this one.

Carrion City: Sexual assault (fairly explicit), explicit sexual content, cannibalism, starvation, homelessness/housing instability, misgendering/transphobia, codependency, and suicide.

The Singularity: Environmental anxiety, industrial/urban disasters (apartment collapses, etc.), religious themes, and moral stress.

Who designed [X book cover/jewellery/etc]?

Post-Traumatic Anatomy’s cover is by Linda Mota, who is on Instagram at @Rubbbernecking.

The covers for Shining Wire, Home is Where The Ghosts Are, Deep in the Bone, The Singularity, Carrion City, GULA, and Revenant’s Hymn are all by me, Elliott Dunstan, using public domain/Creative Commons photography or, in some cases, photos I took myself. (The covers of The Singularity and Home Is Where The Ghosts Are are, respectively, the warehouse of my old workplace, and the stairs up to the old apartment the zine is about.)

The art inside of Revenant’s Hymn is a mix of art by me, Viktor Love (https://tapas.io/SpeedyDoggo), and VioVayo. (https://www.tumblr.com/viovayo).

The alchemy keychains are designed and created by Lyrical Crafts (lyricalcrafts.bsky.social).

The art prints and all other jewellery are designed and made by me, using primarily recycled/upcycled materials.

Are your earrings hypoallergenic?

Due to how I create my jewellery, unfortunately, I can’t guarantee anything concerning allergies or materials.

Last updated: December 29, 2025 16:04

Why are your earrings one-of-a-kind?

I create my jewellery and artwork by upcycling/recycling scrap items – old SQL textbooks, broken jewellery, pop tabs and torn magazines, spare rhinestones, even straightened-out paperclips. As you can imagine, this results in earrings that can rarely be precisely duplicated. The one exception is my chandelier earrings, and even then, I usually have special touches on each of them so they’re still listed as one-of-a-kind. (But if you really like them, send me a message, just in case.) I work with what’s available.

Does your packaging reveal anything about the contents?

Absolutely not. The package will read as being shipped from Elliott Dunstan, and while someone can look me up, it won’t display as being any particular book. If you’re concerned about privacy, the packages should be fairly nondescript.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
